The Best Hockey Stores In Calgary

The city of Calgary, Alberta – Home to the Calgary Flames, Calgary Hitmen, and hundreds of minor hockey teams, is undoubtedly a hockey town.  Luckily for locals, there are tons of hockey stores to choose from within the city limits!  Looking to see which one is your best bet?  Check out our list below!

Curious about the best stores in Calgary’s northern neighbour, Edmonton?  Check our article here!

What We Look For In A Hockey Store

Does the store have a good selection of the latest goods?  This is a good gauge to see if the store is doing well and is worth your time.  A store that has a big mish mash of old and new goods might not get you the best service and bang for the back

Do they have the required expertise?  It is usually best if there are a few more senior people in the hockey store, who have seen a few decades of product come and go.  They can help point you to the best items for your budget / goals compared to someone who’s only been working in the industry for a few years.`

Do they have enough staff to help?  There is nothing more frustrating than when you actually need help at a store, and no one is around to help.  We will choose stores that you will be able to get help at!

Can they sharpen skates?  I know, I know, this seems trivial in the grand scheme of a store.  But after you get your skates sharpened enough times at a bad big box store and find out they cross ground your edges and you can’t play – This will become very important to you very fast!  A good sharpen matters, it’s why every NHL team has an equipment manager who is like the Wayne Gretzky of sharpening skates!

Cons:

  • A Bit of a Drive – Crossiron Mills isnt exactly a central location, so you might as well make an afternoon of it
  • Gongshow Parking Lot – Really, this must be one of the worst parking lots of all time.  At least on the east side.  Take some deep breaths if you head out here.

A hockey superstore, covering thousands of square feet.  If you want the latest gear or anything a hockey fan could dream up, this is the place to come.

Not very often in North America do you find sports stores over 50 years old.  Tuxedo hasn’t survived that long by luck, they are a fantastic resource for your hockey gear needs.  If you are in the area, it’s worth dropping in!

3. Adrenalin Source For Sports

Located on the other side of downtown from Tuxedo Source for Sports, Adrenalin boasts a slightly larger footprint and selection, and also services several different sports just like Tuxedo.  Located on Macleod trail south of Calgary’s downtown core, this store is in a great spot to visit if you live in the south end of town!
